We are a small, friendly choir of singers of all standards. We meet weekly to rehearse works as diverse as Vivaldi’s Magnificat, the Argentinian folk drama Navidad Nuestra, Poulenc’s Gloria and Mendelssohn’s Paulus.
We usually perform three concerts a year, often with East Oxford Community Orchestra and with professional soloists.
We have a successful link with Vocal Ensemble Interlude from Grenoble and we usually travel to each other's cities every year for our spring concert. We are also twinned with choirs in Bonn and Padua.
In 2024 we sang in a concert with our twin choirs in Padua, and performed Handel's Messiah to large appreciative audiences in both Grenoble and Oxford.
In 2025 we performed with our twin choirs and orchestra in Leiden, Grenoble and Bonn as well as in Oxford.
In February this year, some of us travelled - with our friends from Vocal Ensemble Interlude - to Halle in Germany, Handel's birthplace, to sing Messiah again - this time in the annual performance there to mark his birthday, with 400 others from across Europe. We also sang in Thomaskirche in Leipzig - Bach's church. What a brilliant opportunity!
We rehearse
12-1.45pm on Sundays at St Alban’s Church Hall, Charles St, Oxford OX4 3AU
At the moment we are rehearsing for our Handel and Vivaldi concerts in May (Abingdon and Oxford), June (Grenoble) and September (Stockholm). We are also preparing Verdi's Requiem for concerts in October.
Our termly charge to cover the cost of music and room hire is usually about £45, sometimes less.
